ATH1281
The Breeder SKIN

October 16, 2014–November 1, 2014
The Breeder, Athens

We are pleased to announce the inaugural edition of The Breeder SKIN, a new project by The Breeder gallery, which brings the focus on the white minimalistic exterior of the gallery. Once a year a different artist will treat “the skin” of the building as a white canvas – and will intervene with a semi-permanent artwork on its exterior walls.

The inaugural intervention is by Athens based street artist ATH1281, who stands out for his minimal aesthetic and humorous disposal. Although they are executed with spray and acrylic paint, his murals have a strong resemblance to drawings on paper with their sharp lines and absence of color. The gallery thus becomes his notebook where his trademark characters come to life. ATH1281 is playing with the architecture of the building while commenting on urban life, especially on the area where the gallery is located.

ATH1281 has a strong presense in the streets of Athens, yet his graffiti is subtle, blending in with its surroundings and often requires a trained eye to spot it. His characters are like caricatures who have jumped out of a comic book. Although we only see a single often quotidian scene each time, this glimpse is enough to reveal a whole story.

Until November 1st 2014, The Breeder will host a presentation of ATH1281 ‘s works on paper inside the gallery. ATH1281’s intervention on the outside walls of the gallery will be on view until October 2015.
