Georgia Sagri’s practice aestheticizes the process of infliction and subsequent healing of a wound. Charged with dense meaning, this exercise dwells on the condition of tear and the hope of restoration, as it embodies a ruptured society, a break in the tissue that holds us together, all the while swelling the question of who bit that flesh, and whose aftermath contusion it belongs to. Confronted with this bleeding and swollen lesion, the injury inescapably wounds us too, indifferent to whether its existence contemplates the realm of fleshy reality or painful aesthetic. Ranging from sculpture, installation, video, and centered in performance as well as writing, Georgia Sagri’s practice is manifold. In it, she deconstructs social binaries, customs and modern power relations, while inquiring about identity, beliefs and behaviors, often with focal point of the use of her own body and voice.
