Maria Hassabi
TOGETHER

November 5, 2022–November 6, 2022
Ob/Scene Festival, Ilmin Museum of Art, Seoul

Since the early 2000s Maria Hassabi has carved a unique practice based on the relation of the live body to the still image and to the sculptural object. Concentrated on stillness and deceleration, her works reflect on concepts of time and the humanfigure. With minimal movements, TOGETHER, an intimate duet between herself and dancer Oisín Monaghan, evokes images of togetherness. The two of them move at the limits of perception, folding the surrounding space against the contours of the body. TOGETHER proposes a forceful choreographic meditation on methods of affecting and being affected by each other; on ways of living with and next toanother.
“Together has a simple title for a complicated question: how to be together? The contact between the two bodies, like a spark, occurs: cheek to cheek, head to head, forehead to forehead, then nose to nose, and almost mouth to mouth, the infinite tenderness of this desert couple tries to calm the panic pre-apocalyptic.”
