The Portent Passage of Teras
August 19, 2021–August 19, 2021Tryfon Art Residency, Lesbos
‘The Portent Passage of Teras’ is a performance ritual that depicts and instigates the transformation of an individual into its monstrous nature. The three performers all assume the same role and purpose in the ritual and in so doing present to us the inner working of the beast. In this context, the concept of monstrosity is challenged and re-examined. Developing and further elaborating from the timeworn fairytale concept of the evil beast, this sense of otherly and socially discarded individual is seen not as morally dubious but as illuminating and containing knowledge yet un-acquired by the mass. In this way, this monstrous nature is regarded as divine, both malignant and benevolent, as once removed from societies obligations an elevated state of existence can be assumed. Through the narrated poem and the choreography of the performers, we follow as the individual portrayed detaches from the social bonds of female, male, and family ideals in order to evolve into its real nature.
The performance was realized during Lappas’ residency at Tryfon Art Residency, in Molyvos, Lesbos in collaboration with 7th Molyvos International Music Festival.
A performance with Yorgis Partalidis and Aliki Panagiotopoulou Andreiomenou.
