Andreas Lolis
Behind the theatre

August 25, 2021–October 21, 2021
Old Olive Mill, Eleusis

Behind the open-air theatre of the Old Oil Mill in Eleusis, Andreas Lolis presents a large-scale sculpture installation that evokes an excavation in progress.

Acting as a threshold detector, Lolis discreetly intervenes in the existing ruins and the natural landscape.

He creates a sculptured environment that highlights the unpretentious, theatrical side of everyday life and spotlights physical sensations.

Visitors follow a short but meticulously planned route that takes them through seven scenes, or ‘stage sets’, in all of which human absence is a prominent feature.

They find themselves before material remains, forms frozen in time – a narrative puzzle they are invited to solve.
