Alexandros Vasmoulakis
The Breeder x Vezené

March 2, 2019–April 30, 2019
Vezené, Athens

Alexandros Vasmoulakis tiptoes between construction and destruction, making and unmaking. Bits of bold scraping and thin layering are revealed in each work upon closer inspection. A Collagist-at-heart Vasmoulakis upcycles imagery from his older paintings, a process that builds a narrative of its own. While adopting elements of Cubism and Abstract Expressionism, accompanied by cartoon-like adaptations, he creates through destruction. His non-figurative figures capture the perpetual gap between what we see and what we know.

His work is included in the exhibition Les Métamorphoses at Fondation Cartier in Paris (spring 2019). Selected shows include Mind Mischief (2017) and The Eaters and The Eaten (2016) at The Breeder in Athens; Culturescapes: The Decline of Heroes at Antikenmuseum in Basel; No Country for Young Men, BOZAR Centre of Fine Arts, Brussels.

THE BREEDER x VEZENÉ collaboration brings together two dynamic representatives of contemporary Greek culture, that although are in different fields share a common philosophy, vision and creativity. For this synergy artists and artistic projects curated by THE BREEDER gallery, create site- specific interventions at VEZENÉ restaurant, enhancing the culinary experience with contemporary art.
