Andreas Lolis
Backyard

September 24, 2026–October 31, 2026
The Breeder Feeder, Athens

The Breeder is pleased to present Backyard, a special project by Andreas Lolis, consisting of recent hand carved marble works. Over the past two decades, Lolis has developed a distinctive sculptural language through the transformation of marble, one of the most enduring materials in art history, into familiar, fragile forms associated with everyday life. His works meticulously reimagine cardboard, polystyrene, wood, fabric and other ordinary materials, often bearing traces of use, wear and passage. The paradox between the permanence and historical associations of marble and the transient nature of the objects it imitates creates a tension that lies at the core of his practice, while his painstaking hand-carving stands in deliberate contrast to the mass-produced materials he evokes.

Lolis’s sculptures emerge from an engagement with memory, absence and the traces of lived experience, while deliberately moving beyond the personal to speak to more universal forms of vulnerability and remembrance. Everyday objects and gestures, those connected to labour, rest, loss, care and routine, are transformed into quiet memorials, honoring ordinary moments. Through their apparent fragility and suspended sense of time, these works reimagine monumentality not as a celebration of the heroic, but as an act of attention to the overlooked and provisional, giving enduring form to the traces people leave behind in the world and within one another.

“Balance in the backyard comes when we stop hiding the mess and start accepting it. This mess is not a weakness; it is a sign of life and effort.”
